Meet the Cornerstone Team
“What gives me the greatest pleasure is how remodeling a home changes lives. It is not just a kitchen, family room, or even a simple update, it can effortlessly reshape a family. Where you now eat dinner as a family and hang out together.” -Allen Tankersley
Cornerstone’s owner and founder, Allen is a licensed contractor, NARI Certified Remodeler, Certified Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeler, and a licensed electrician.
Allen began his construction experience at the age of 8 during summer visits with his dad. Over then next 10 years, he became an asset to his dad’s business as an apprentice, specializing in kitchen and bathroom remodeling, complete home renovations and minor repairs.
In 2001 Allen became a lead carpenter building residential structures, home additions, commercial redevelopments and interior finish work.
He then started a 5-year apprenticeship with Local 48 IBEW and worked with several of Portland Oregon’s finest electrical contractors. He is a Licensed Journeyman Electrician and has been in the electrical industry since early 2000.
As an electrician apprentice, Allen missed home building. As he looked around the homes he worked in, he found that building and remodeling homes was where he wanted to be and in May of 2003 he founded Cornerstone Builders.
Allen also sits on the Board of Directors and Project Committee for ReFIT. ReFIT provides no-cost home modifications for physically challenged people. The company has also donated many labor hours and materials for ReFIT clients, completing a wheelchair ramp and supporting other projects.
Chris has worked for Cornerstone since Allen founded the company in 2003. He started in construction in the Air Force as a heavy equipment operator building runways in Kuwait. When he returned to the U.S. and completed his military service, he worked in concrete construction in California. He has worked for many years in the Portland area for commercial and residential contractors, growing his expertise in all aspects of construction from foundations to finish work.
Chris is often out in the field, working on and managing projects. In addition, he is part of Cornerstone’s design team, in the office drawing detailed construction documents and putting on paper what will become a client’s dream home. He has attended many classes and trainings from Lead Based Paint certification to drafting.
Chris also donates his time and expertise to ReFIT drafting and building projects for physically disabled homeowners.
Kelli has been with the company since 2012 making sure the office runs smoothly and she is the first person you’ll talk to at Cornerstone. She handles the scheduling, blog writing, posting to the company’s Facebook and Houzz pages, and updating the website.
Kelli has been working in the administrative field since she was 14 volunteering at her local base hospital. Kelli moved to Oregon in 2001 and worked as an administrative assistant and in a payroll department.
In her free time she likes to kayak, hike, dance, hang out with her husband and son, and visit family in California.
Chris has been with Cornerstone since 2009. Originally from Port Orford, Oregon Chris moved to Alaska and spent 5 years in the fishing industry. Looking for a change, he moved back to Oregon and was brought on as Cornersone’s apprentice carpenter. An unmatched work ethic and a virtually blank canvas, Chris has learned excavation, foundation forming and framing from the Cornerstone team.
Kirsten keeps the financial side of the company organized as Cornerstone’s bookkeeper. Her attention to detail helps keep the company on track.
